Somehow I managed to read this when it first appeared and not comment. While reading the book, I decided I needed to return and say something. So here is something: This is one of my favorite poems. I remember the classroom where I first read it (though not who the teacher was or which grade I was in, but I do know what school I was at). It struck me then, as it still does, as one of the most perfect combinations of words in English (or probably any language). This poem, and Emily Dickinson's "Exultation is the going," will be with me to my death bed.
